The Cross

The cross- tragedy or achievement? For whom?

We all know that the crucifixion was the greatest achievement of all times. The central message of the Biblical Text is summed up in John 3:16 “ for God so loved the world that He sent His only begotten Son, for whomsoever believe in Him should not perish, but have eternal live” (emphasis mine). And, according to Jesus’ own statement (John 14:6)… [He is] the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by [Him] (emphasis mine). And, the Cross of Jesus is the only door to the Father (John 10)

Today we see an unprecedented attack from inside and outside the Church against the basic tenets of Christianity.

Ken Symington, of Christ Restoration Ministry- Ireland, explains how the basic foundations of Christianity are being demolished, in his paper titled “All roads lead to God?” [1]
1st foundation = Jesus Christ’s Lordship and only way
2nd foundation = The complete and sole authority of the Bible as the Word of God. If Jesus is not who He says He is, then the Bible is a collection of myths.
3rd foundation = The work of the cross. Without the cross there is no salvation, and if Jesus was only a great teacher, His death, was a tragedy.
4th foundation = The Great Commission - there is nothing to share except be nice people and do humanitarian works.
5th foundation = The existence of hell as described in Scripture.

Pastors of mega-churches embrace Rob Bell denial of a literal hell, but the truth is that Jesus spoke more about hell than about heaven.

I am attaching Max Lucado's excellent explanation concerning the importance of the Cross.

History has only one main event.
"Mankind's timeline is dotted with important moments.
The first spark from the first flint. The rolling in the first wheel.
The treating of the first wound.
Who dares minimise these events?
But who dares compare them with the Cross?
History has only one main event. Scripture has only one main event.
Others matter, but only one is essential.
The story of Jericho might stir you, but falling walls can’t redeem you.
Moses will give you directions for the wilderness but no solution for your sin.
David’s defeat of Goliath might reduce your timidity but only the Cross prepares you for eternity.
Scripture has only one main event.
Even in the life of Jesus there is only one main event. For if there is no Cross of Christ then there is no Truth to Christ. And when it comes to your life the same is true. To remove the Cross is to remove the hinch-pin from the door of hope. The door to your hope.
For if there is no Cross then there is no sacrifice for sin. If there is no sacrifice for sin then how will you face a sinless God? Will you cleanse your own sin?
And if there is no Cross of Christ then there is no resurrection of Christ. And if there is no resurrection of Christ how will you live again? Will you push back your own grave?
Forgiveness of sin. Deliverance from death. These are the claims of the Cross.
The Cross is not an event in history.
It is THE event of history" [2]
